Nothing new….

29 March, 2007

…just wanted to post as I’m sat in the garden. I’ve been messing with my wireless network and now have a strong signal across the garden (note to self: try not to have a tv and microwave oven either side of the basestation…). In addition, I’m also using my iMac as a basestation so where ever I roam the MacBook has a strong signal, just need to sort streaming from eyetv, not because I need to watch tv in the garden but just as an option…. ;)

Katherine’s cottage

28 March, 2007

Now that we have started working on the garden we thought it would be a good time to rebuild and setup Katherine’s garden cottage. Earlier this week we sanded all the wood and gave it a coat of stain – it was looking a bit poorly before the new colour went on….

Hopefully we can put it back together soon, it just needs some new perspex for the windows and door, and then re-roofing. Katherine then wants to paint the inside, the list of colours she has presented is kind of long…

Here is the window all sanded and stained.

Natalie has been working hard on getting the plants ready for transplanting into the veg beds. Here are some little pictures of the next batch of seedlings ready for planting now that the cold weather (we hope!) has passed.

Corton Beach

24 March, 2007

One of the cool things about living in Norfolk is the access to a huge range of beaches, basically the whole coastline is one long beach!

Recently we went to Corton, a seaside village about 20 minutes away, not the most picturesque beach but naturally Katherine just loved being there. The tide was in but we still had access to a small patch of sand and shingle and here she is loving every minute of it!

Veg garden – update

23 March, 2007

Managed to get some more work done on the veg garden this week. Installed the new fence across the front and moved the new earth into the third raised bed. Next is to plant the lavender and sage bushes along the front of the fence to create a heady aroma when you brush passed them on your way in to the garden.

More toys

21 March, 2007

Went to B&Q today and acquired some more power tools for my workshop – they were having a clearance sale so the opportunity to get a bench top drill press for £17 was to good to miss, throw in a half decent angle grinder for £20 and my workshop is starting to get seriously tricked out.

Now just need to start using it all…..

Saturday morning

17 March, 2007

After having a busy week around the garden and house it was really nice this morning to have a slow wake up. Nat and Katherine went off to the library (and to do some shopping…..), so I decided it was time for a stove top coffee.

Stubborn root

16 March, 2007

When we moved to the new house there was a Russian Vine growing all over the shed and was out of control, so we decided to cut it down.

Butterflies…

15 March, 2007

With the unseasonal sunshine all the flowers in the garden are looking amazing and attracting the insect life. We have an abundance of ladybirds, bumblebees are starting to appear, and so are butterflies. The hyacinths are of particular interest to the butterflies. Click the picture for a larger image.
